I have to say that Blind Dog Mayer is a new band that has recently come across my radar. Originating from Germany, this four-piece band has produced a six-track EP, consisting of original material, penned by the band themselves. Anthem Of The Lost Sock is not a song title that you could easily forget, but this opening track hits you like a bolt of lightning. Leaning towards the rockier side of the Blues, it certainly packs a punch. It did put me in mind ever so slightly of early ZZ Top. Blind Dog Mayer is the lead vocalist, and he is also very adept at the harmonica. Dirk Lenz plays a mean guitar with raunchy riffs that create a harmony alongside the vocals. As I listened to the songs, one thought did pop into my head: these guys would grace any Festival line-up. Harley Rider is perhaps the Bluesiest song on the EP, especially with the haunting harmonica courtesy of Blind Dog. So, all in all, a brilliant band, great EP, and I, for one, am looking forward to a full album in the not-too-distant future.

Their debut release, “LIVE STUDIO SESSION - FROM THE SHADOW OF THE CASTLE,” is currently receiving extensive international airplay. In fact, the German band even made it into a renowned radio magazine in Canada with their first single release!
The German blues-rock band The Blind Dog Mayer Group was featured on the Canadian radio and online magazine Radiodowntown.ca for their single “That's What I Saw,” along with a mention in the magazine.
The station played the song in June 2026 as part of its programming.

And here, everyone could certainly have seen for themselves exactly what I mean. The band manages to play each of the songs in their own unique style…
…So it’s no wonder that Blind Dog Mayer himself can’t stop grinning every now and then as he glances over at his bandmates. It’s the same grin that bassist Michael Jung wears constantly on his lips when he closes his eyes and is completely in his element. You can also see the joy on drummer Marco's face when you catch a glimpse of him behind his swirling drum set. Blind Dog Mayer then spices up various songs in the set with his harmonica, which adds that certain something. He, too, plays with a great deal of feeling… <<

This summary also applies to the current lineup of the Saarland-based blues harp player and singer. And with this, he has secured a prominent place in the 2025 blues rock calendar by winning the 43rd German Rock & Pop Award. The Blind Dog Mayer Group won in the “Best Blues Rock Band” category, receiving one of the most recognized seals of quality in the German music scene. <<

Ottweiler blues musician Blind Dog Mayer has not performed on stage since the start of the coronavirus pandemic five years ago. He is celebrating his comeback this year at the same time as his 25th stage anniversary - and a new band project.
